DWS Apprenticeship Scheme
Don Whitley Scientific Limited (DWS) is proud of its Apprenticeship Scheme, which has been running since 2010. The scheme provides vocational training to equip people with the skills required for them to transition into the workplace, often from a school environment, and become the best, most committed employees. The scheme creates a continuous channel of education, on-the-job-training, and career progression potential for people aged 16 years and over and not in full time education.
The Modern Apprenticeship Scheme that we run to support the development of new engineers takes 2-5 years to complete. It is taught via a combination of on-the-job training with highly experienced members of staff, and classroom/workshop learning at college. This results in a range of qualifications, including Level 2 and 3 BTECs and NVQs.
However, our apprentices also have the opportunity to continue their studies to higher levels, such as completing the HNC and HND in Engineering. This additional study is fully funded by DWS. As well as one apprentice currently studying for a HNC in Engineering, we also have two apprentices undertaking a Chartered Manager Degree (CMDA), one studying finance (AAT Diploma), and two on Leadership Apprenticeship courses.
We are very proud to say that the majority of our qualified apprentices are now employed by DWS in a full-time capacity in departments such as Production; Service & Maintenance; Research & Development; and the Machine Shop.
