We recently received a letter from Dr Chiranjay Mukhopadhyay, Professor and Head of Microbiology Department at Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India, regarding his Whitley A35 Anaerobic Workstation. The workstation has been installed for over eight months and Dr Mukhopadhyay comments: "... we found the equipment to be very user friendly and easy to handle. Requires minimal training for operation and there is minimal maintenance. Specimen processing, incubation and examination of cultures can be safely done without exposure to atmospheric oxygen. The instant access porthole system makes it easy to handle the culture plates and makes it a completely gloveless environment. Some of the other user friendly options in this workstation include a removable front which helps in cleaning in case of spill; letterbox for fast transfer of single Petri dish plates avoiding the airlock which we have found to be very useful feature and touch-screen control panel which displays anaerobic conditions, temperature, humidity and airlock cycle status. Overall we have had a good experience with this anaerobic workstation with good isolations of different obligate anaerobic bacteria from various clinical specimens."
