To celebrate International Women in Engineering Day 2022 we wanted to shine a spotlight on our wonderful engineers to see what inspired them to progress into a STEM career and what they enjoy best about their work.
Our production operatives have a wide range of skills that are crucial in the manufacture of our products. Don Whitley Scientific is a trusted manufacturer within the microbiology, cell culture, tissue engineering and pharmaceutical sectors. These extraordinary women are a crucial part of ensuring that our products continue to be relied upon in laboratories worldwide.
We caught up with some of the women that are helping build toward a brighter future at DWS:
“I have worked for DWS for 21 years, having originally started in the lab as a microbiologist. I’ve always been fascinated with how things go together, how they work and the ideas behind them, so I transferred over to production. I love the fact that I’m building something that enables others all over the world to make discoveries and potentially cure diseases.”
“I originally trained as a veterinary nurse and had a variety of job roles before joining Don Whitley Scientific. I heard about a position at DWS in 2001, got the job and never looked back. The best part of my job is, the challenge of building and wiring new products.”
“I hadn’t considered working in engineering at all, but I had family who worked at DWS who encouraged me to apply after nearly 28 years of working in customer service. It was a big step but one I haven’t regretted in the slightest. The best part of my job is soldering circuit boards and feeling a sense of achievement seeing them work in the machinery we build.”
“The ability to work with different professionals all collaborating to achieve a common goal was the key factor that attracted me to pursue this career in engineering at DWS. I love being in an environment where I am always learning, that for me is the best part of the job.”
“I became interested in engineering at DWS after hearing about how enjoyable a family member had found it and the variety of work he had been tasked with. The best part of my job is definitely building tangential fans for our workstations.”
From everyone at Don Whitley Scientific, a huge thank you to all our engineers and we hope to continue playing our part in encouraging more women to work in an engineering environment and support them to fulfil their potential.
